The winner is Nina
ohhh I think you should start cutting it up and sewing it - writing on it and combining that with other fabrics - or at least that what I would do if I win it!
Michelle of Quilters Gallery Fame is hosting another Blog Hop Give Away. It starts on December 9 (appropriately enough the birthday of a very special person). The thing I like the most about the blog hop is that is causes me to go out and look a lot of blogs I would otherwise miss. I almost always find ones that I have to follow. So, thanks Michelle for coordinating this and so many other things that help connect quilting bloggers.
If you have followed my blog over the past month or so, you will note that I have become intrigued with chalkboard stuff... paint, paper and fabric. An early Christmas present turned up several yards of chalkboard fabric. (Thanks J!) I've been experimenting with it.
This is what I am calling a buffet mat. It will mostly work to label the food on the trays nearby. I used some extra binding from the "quilt that grew". More importantly, this was the first time I successfully stitched a binding on by machine. It isn't perfect, but I learned enough to try it again on a real project.
For this give away, I am going to share some of my chalkboard fabric. I have a piece that is 13 inches wide and 37 inches long. I am really looking for ideas of things to make and techniques for working with this fabric. So all you need to do to enter this give away is to leave your suggestions in the comments. If you have links to tutorials that would be even better.
The Fine print. This is a pretty heavy piece of fabric so I am going to ship in the US only. I will have to fold it up a bit to get it in the envelope but I will minimize that as best as I can. This giveaway will be open from Dec 9 until Dec 16. I will use a the Random number generator to pick the winning comment on the 17th and get it in the mail to you as soon as I get your real address. If you are a no-reply blogger please leave some contact information so that I can get in touch if you win.
Now... if you didn't get here from there, go to the Party page and start looking at some other great blogs.
You could make a banner with it...and change the lettering to reflect...whatever. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Birthday, Anniversary, Graduation....
ReplyDeleteNo, I did not think of this on my own. I saw something like it on Pinterest. :)
I wood cut a piece of thin wood, staple the paper to the sides, cover the staples with some large ric rac, put a heavy string on the top to hang it near my fabric for notions or for needed fabric.
ReplyDeleteFun fabric. You could make kid fabric baskets and make a band of the chalkboard fabric around the top of the basket. Then label what should be in the basket.
ReplyDeleteMost certainly would use this fabric to make personalized mug-snuggies!

You could make reusable gift tags and labels for boxes, bottles, etc. Cool cloth.. I hope to find some in my mailbox at the end of the hop :)
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to try that, I would use it on the children's art folios that I make.
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a fun pillow! Thanks for the giveaway! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI think a child's "quiet book" or car travel book would be fun, with pockets to hold the chalk. I have seen some at craft fairs.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what I'd do with the fabric. Maybe, you could make some fabric buckets that are easy to label.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really cute: http://www.u-createcrafts.com/2011/07/quiet-art-packet-tutorial-you-asked.html
ReplyDeletemaybe a list of UFO? to cross off as you work on them
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this before. I would probably use it in a way similar to you...make a mini wall hanging for a kids room or classroom. I guess it would be a nice teacher gift too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance to win.
I would use it to make tags for my project bins. That way I could quickly update them when I clear them out when the project is done and start a new one. Thanks for the chance to put it to good use!
ReplyDeleteyou could frame and hang it on the wall it to make list. i would love to play with it thanks
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I have heard of chalk board fabric. My daughters and daughters in law use chalk board paint for everything. I would love to work with a fabric like that and be creative.
ReplyDeleteI suggest covering a stool, foot stool or piano bench which for my grandkids would be great because both of these items are used at my house for crafts or eating on.
ReplyDeleteThis would make a great message board to keep on track with BOMs, QALs, etc... You could get a mailing tube and just roll the fabric - I've used them for sending Aida cloth, which I hate to fold.
ReplyDeleteI would use it to make table topper for my daughter's crafting projects.
ReplyDeletePlacemats would be fun, and let the kids have some chalk!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I wish I could give you ideas and techniques but I have never worked with the fabric myself!
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect in the middle of the i-spy placemats I'm making for my nephews!
ReplyDeleteI never knew that there was chalkboard fabric! How cool... my inner-teacher is super excited! I'm thinking it might be neat for a classroom project or for in the kitchen as a menu board!
ReplyDeleteThis fabric would be great in a banner when if I do a craft show. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know this existed!
ReplyDeleteprills@aol.com
I've been intrigued with that fabric but have no idea where to do get. Thanks for the drawing!
ReplyDeleteIt would be cute to label bottles or storage jars with it, with a pretty border. That is exactly what I will do with it if I win it. Thanks. Vivian
ReplyDeleteI made portable play mats for my grandchildren. I sewed little pockets on the side and added chalk along with a little microfiber cloth for an eraser. They can use it in the car or anyplace they have to wait.
ReplyDeleteHello from Minnesota! I am intrigued...but I'll admit, I haven't used it. I checked out "Sewing with Oilcloth" from the library that had good tips for working with heavy fabrics. If I won, I'd make some bunting for decorating my scooter. Or maybe a luggage tag?
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat item! I'd make a small one for my refrigerator and one for my quilt room with all the reminders I need....lots of those, at my age. Drop by and visit me, too, when you have a minute. I'm a fellow quilter/blogger/hopper/giver.
ReplyDeleteThanks, very nice I want to thank you for being part of the hop.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this before. How about a calendar?
ReplyDeleteGREAT chalkcloth ideas! I love them and hope I can try it out for my grandchildren. Thanks so much for participating in the giveaway and giving away such a terrific gift.

Wow I didn't even know that existed! I'd probably make something to use as a shopping list that I could put on the side of my fridge - now I'll have to check this out, so thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteChalk Fabric would be fun to use on a lunch sack. You could write a note or menu on the front and change it everyday! Fun giveaway thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! You could use it to make napkin rings with each person's name on it for holiday gatherings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway! I haven't used chalk fabric before.

I would use it as a writing pad for my 5 yr old. he loves to write on his magna doodle before bedtime, but it's sooo heavy, and hurts if he props it up to write and it falls on his face or hands. This would be the perfect solution. I would use a second one for myself. When I can't sleep I like write my worries down. It's a perfect "worry chart" to keep along side the bed, write down your worries, and then have a great sleep and have the worries erased in the morning.
ReplyDeleteReading everyone's ideas gave me one of my own... Fridge List. You know how people always open the fridge to see what's inside? Make a magnetic backed chalkboard writing pad, then write what's in the fridge. As it disappears: erase. When you go shopping: add.
ReplyDeleteMichigan address ready! For a teacher gift this Christmas, make a chalkboard ornament.

ReplyDeleteI want to make airplane playmats!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could make coasters with it - those ones that slip onto the bottom of a wine glass - and be able to write names on. I'd love to win some of this! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking placemats for my grands.
ReplyDeleteI think I would use it to make a message board for the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be cool to create a travel bag for a child, so they can draw with chalk on a trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
A few fabric buckets to hold different notions!
ReplyDeleteI have not tried the blackboard fabric yet. I'd be happy to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteOMG, what fun, you can make all kinds of things with it. I never tried it before but sure would like to. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteIf I win I would make a quilted message board with the chalk board in the middle and attach magnets to the back and hang on the fridge. Never used the stuff before so it would be fun to win and try it. Then I could write a tutorial on using it, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh wow I have never heard of such fabric. This would be fun to play with. Hmm what about to do for a grocery list to hang up in the kitchen

ReplyDeleteNeat fabric, I haven't worked with that yet! This would be neat hanging in a child's as part of a wall hanging!
ReplyDeleteA small roll up message board (5 x 7) to write lunch box notes on for a child's school lunches. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd use it making some things for my kids...placemats to entertain them when they finish early, chore charts, potty chart in the bath room? I'd have to see the fabric to see how it handles before I could say for sure
ReplyDeleteI would make a travel board for the car. Just a idea, maybe you could use a tube to mail the fabric, that way it won't get bent. Thank You
