And the winner is...
ive
never seen a quilt label before but these are beautiful. My mom passed
away two years ago from cancer and im making a tshirt quilt out of her
clothes for my siblings and i and this would go beautifully to
commemorate her. This is a beautiful give-away.
It is Give Away Day at Sew Mama Sew. I am giving away a custom embroidered quilt label.
I just love the idea of creating a label to match the quilt and to document the provenance of each quilt. I have several quilts from my family where the history is lost. We can only guess about who and when. One particularly gorgeous example was found in my grandmother's house. My dad said, his mother could not have made it but we have no way of knowing who did.
The two pictures here are of custom quilt labels designed to match a particular quilt. I have several designs at WaggonsWest . But, as you can see here, I like to work with my customers to come up with new designs. The lion label is an example of combining an existing border with one of my badge designs. It was FUN. The vine one was a completely new design created for a customer and now available.
No matter how many times I am told that I need to label my quilts and despite the fact that I make custom embroidered quilt labels all the time, I never seem to manage to put a fancy label on any of my quilts. I am usually using my fabric marker and writing around the binding on the back at the last minute if I have to ship one out the door. It is truly pathetic. That doesn't have to be the case for you. All you have to do is tell me what sort of label you would like to see in the comments. Flowers? Fancy? Text only? Photos? What is your favorite label?
The fine print:
Up for grabs is one custom quilt label. I will ship internationally. Drawing will be held when I wake up on May 17. The winner will be notified by email so be sure to leave an addy if you are a no name blogger! The official rules say that your prize has to be mailed by May 20. However, this is a custom order. We will chat about what it is you want and I will design something specifically for you. It usually takes a few weeks to get it all nailed down and stitched out. So patience is necessary for this prize. Winner will be chosen by a random drawing from my favorite comments.
Be sure to check out all of the rest of the prizes at Sew Mama Sew.
What a wonderful giveaway! I am like you in that I know how important it is to label quilts, and have looked at family quilts and wished we knew the "who", "when" and "why" of it...but still don't do a great job labeling my own quilts. I have a special quilt in mind if I am the lucky winner, a "gift" quilt that deserves an especially nice label, far better than my machine (or skills) could accomplish.
ReplyDeleteI know I am suppose to label my quilts but (oops) have yet to do so. So any label would be good BUT it would depend on the quilt the label was for.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh what a super prize, I would love a custom label to go on the quilt for our Granddaughter, that would be perfect
ReplyDeleteI like photo labels for the quilts I make for special people, but for quilts I'm keeping either labels with flowers, cats or penguins.

Birds would be great on a label! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing your custom label ideas. I think they would be prettier than my quilts at this point! The ideas are turning in my head for my designs! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI would love a lable fashioned after the victorian hobby of autographs or visiting cards, with flowers, scrolls and caligraphy. :) sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteWow... a unique giveaway. I love these labels (much nicer than the ones I normally make). Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. A real heirloom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I am making a quilt for a friend and it would be great to add a label when I'm done. :) coralbunnyandlo [at] gmail [dot] com
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea! Some of the quilt labels you can buy in quilt shops can be sort of old-fashioned, so being able to design something just right for that special quilt would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think what I'd really like to see on a quilt label, apart from all the text, is something from the quilt so that it ties in nicely. It could be a quilting pattern or a border that has a pieced border in the colour of the quilt, or even the text inside a Swoon block or with your sawtooth star motif in the middle to separate the 'to' and 'from' information. You could do lots with this idea, I really like that!
This is a great giveaway! I have never labeled my quilts, and until now I had never seen a reason to. But it makes sense. I like simple labels (e.g., no borders) with (for example) a lion and block text.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I am working on a fun orange quilt right now and I would love to have a label for it.
ReplyDeleteFabulous giveaway! I've not been good about adding labels on the quilts I make. None of them have labels. Your labels are loverly! lyn@plkaufmann.com
ReplyDeleteMy labels are so boring and were ordering in a hurry. I need to get something special
ReplyDeleteWouw! what a great giveaway! I always try to label my quilts, but my designs are boring... i'm currently working on a great quilt, which will need a very special label. a king size quilt with handpieced hexagons. Should i be so lucky to win, I will tell you all about it an send you some pictures!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! If I won I would let my mother-in-law pick out what she wants. She quilts and I prefer sewing garments. :)

What an unusual but great giveaway. I think flowers would be lovely Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThis would be so awesome, I only have these tiny woven labels that you can sew in anywhere, so wouldn't have an idea where to even start. But maybe something with an apple, since I have some in my blog header, or a sheep, as I love those. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd let you get creative!
many thanks for the chance!
I think a label with a celtic knot design would be beautiful!
ReplyDeletea photo would be cool!
ReplyDeleteive never seen a quilt label before but these are beautiful. My mom passed away two years ago from cancer and im making a tshirt quilt out of her clothes for my siblings and i and this would go beautifully to commemorate her. This is a beautiful give-away.
ReplyDeleteOh love this! I think the flexibility to design based on a quilt or theme is great! Thanks for the chance :)
ReplyDeleteI think I would like text only, with a great border (barbed wire would be cool for a guy!). This is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I would love to get one in pinks and purples for my 2 year old, so something with a cutesy font, and maybe swirls and hearts.
ReplyDeleteI'd like something that had a pic of my cat!
ReplyDeleteI've never done a label before, but would love one for the baby quilt I am finishing up now! It's a busy quilt in grey, mustard, teal and kelly green...
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool giveaway - I would love a label, actually a bunch of labels, with a goat on them because my blog and my name is one old goat :)
ReplyDeleteoneoldgoat1962 at gmail dot com
Sorry if I already commented, but my computer was having problems and sent me an error message. Anyway, I said that I really love your lion label!!! If I won, I would have you do something cutesy like that for a baby quilt. Maybe a monkey? I might just make a quilt to go with the label, instead of the other way around!!! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat give away. Thanks so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I don't label all my quilts, but I do document them!
ReplyDeleteFabulous.I`ve never label any of my quilt and this would be great!
ReplyDeleteNice give away. I haven't labeled anything I've made yet but would like to. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with embroidery and I've been wanting to learn. I love your quilt label designs and flowers are definitely something I would love on one. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletetdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
A custom made label would be fabulous!!
ReplyDeletethat is very cool! I like fairly clean and simple with a classic look.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway and so very generous of you! I would love to see a flower garden label - my daughter is making a Jane Austin BOM quilt with modern flower garden materials! thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy first comment didn't show up, so I'm going to try again :) I'd love a label with purple butterflies to signify new life. Good for you on your choice of giveaway for the blog hop. This is something definitely everyone can use…er should use…I have several, that I admit, have missed the labeling process. Thank you for participating in the blog hop. (hopefully this isn't a duplicate comment).
ReplyDeletei love monochomatic fancy labels!
ReplyDeletethanks!

My last quilt I labeled by trying to embroidery my initials and the year. The problem was that I was using perle cotton (I'd tied the quilt with it) and I was going for small letters.
ReplyDeleteMy current project is using an Aneela Hoey print that has lots of mini forest animals, including hedgehogs and squirrels; I think it would be fun to copy some of that into a label.

I always label my quilts, but I have a special quilt that I hope I would get a special label for because of how much time it took. I made 'Weekend in October' which is a quessn sized quilt of autumn leaves. It took me along time since I used a different fabric for each leaf and only worked on it in the fall. But it is done!
ReplyDeleteI am so terrible with labels. I know I should and I even want to, but I am usually so last minute and that is an extra step I just can't get done! Thanks
ReplyDeleteQuilts are made with love and come from your heart. You put a lot of your time and talent into making these quilts. So, therefore, you need a quilt label, maybe to match your personality. I was thinking of a basic label, maybe with a small 9-patch quilt on it. Then just say "I love you, Sandi" on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being a part of this sew Mama Sew giveaway and giving all of us such a priceless gift, one being from you.

I love words, especially when they are cleverly put together. So I try and say something in my labelling - which is usually thread writing around an outer border - that ties the theme of the quilt with the recipient. It would be great to do that on an actual label and have it include a graphic too.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great gift. I was just discussing labels at my LQS. I would like a Tuxedo Cat stitched in my label.
ReplyDeletetushay3(at)yahoo.(dot)com
I usually just write on a piece of fabric but your embroidered labels are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like to hide their name somewhere on the quilt with floss to match. Those who appreciate my work know to go on a hunt to find it. Lets me know they get the love that goes into it. Cindy
ReplyDeleteI would like to have a label for my 8 yr old grandaughters first quilt which we are working on now. She is already planning the next one. Cindy bluemoonstencils@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteYour labels are truly art!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have one with my logo on it! Or a spool of thread ;) lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteVery nice! My sons quilt (my first ever) is still un-labeled. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I ALWAYS get lectured by my mom to put labels on my quilts but I hate my handwriting on fabric! It looks like a 3rd graders printing! But, I know how important it is to get down that info for generations to come. Just think, we'd never know anything about the Dear Jane quilt if she didn't "label" it! :) Hope I win!
ReplyDeleteIt is really generous to give away anything custom, so thank you! For me, I would want something simple, mostly text, but with some sort of image that made it *pop*. hoopla((at))thecrafties((dot))com
ReplyDeleteI think i'd like something geometric of with very simple flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very thoughtful thing to give away...the opportunity for someone to commemorate their quilt. Thank you!
